Drains for restaurants and cafés on the Isle of Man

Fat, oil and grease are the main cause of blocked kitchen drains. They build up quietly for weeks, then block the drain at the worst possible moment. Planned jetting keeps them clear, so you're not closing mid-service.

Kitchen drain blocked right now?

Call us on 07624 202220. Stop running water down the sinks and dishwasher while you wait, and keep staff away from any overflow.

In short

The problem
Warm fat and grease poured down a sink set hard in the pipe, and food scraps stick to them. The pipe gets narrower until it blocks.
What we do
High-pressure jetting that scours the full width of the pipe, camera checks, and repairs where the pipe itself is damaged.
Planned visits
Regular jetting at an interval that suits your kitchen, so blockages are prevented rather than cleared.
What it costs
Your first consultation is free, and we give you a free estimate before any work starts.
Planned, not reactive

Why planned jetting beats emergency call-outs

A blocked kitchen drain doesn't just mean a call-out. It can mean closing the kitchen, turning customers away and cleaning up afterwards. Jetting on a planned basis clears the fat and grease from the pipe walls before they build up, so the drain keeps flowing.

Rodding punches a hole through a blockage. Jetting cleans the whole pipe, which is why it lasts longer. If a drain keeps blocking even with regular jetting, we'll look with a camera to find out why.

Simple habits that help

Scrape, then wash

Scrape plates and pans into the bin before they go in the sink or dishwasher.

Never pour fat away

Let fat and oil cool and set, then bin it. Hot water doesn't stop it setting further down the pipe.

Strainers on every sink

Sink strainers catch food scraps before they reach the drain.

Look after any grease trap

If you have a grease trap, keep it emptied and maintained. A full one lets grease straight through.

Trade effluent consent

On the Island, food businesses need a trade effluent consent from Manx Utilities for anything other than domestic sewage. See our drainage rules guide.

Act on the early signs

Slow sinks, gurgling and smells near the drains usually mean a build-up. It's cheaper to clear it now than once it's blocked.

18%

of repair-related subsidence claims in the UK are caused by leaking drains or water mains.

Blockages aren't the only risk. A cracked drain leaks into the ground around it, and over time that can wash the soil away under floors and yards. A camera survey finds it early.

Many could have been prevented with a proactive approach.

Questions

Restaurant and café drain FAQs

How often should a kitchen drain be jetted?

It depends on how busy the kitchen is and what it cooks. We'll look at the drain, see how much builds up, and suggest a sensible interval. We won't push visits you don't need.

Can you come outside opening hours?

Tell us when you're quietest and we'll do our best to plan the work for then.

Are drain cleaning chemicals worth using?

We don't recommend them. They rarely clear a proper fat blockage, and they can damage older pipes and make the water dangerous for anyone who then works on the drain.

Do you charge for a quote?

No. Your first consultation is free, and we'll give you a free estimate before any work starts.
