Sewage or water coming up right now?

Call us on 07624 202220. While you wait, stop running taps, flushing toilets and using the washing machine, and keep children and pets away from any sewage. If your neighbours have the same problem, it may be the public sewer: call Manx Utilities on 01624 687687 (Freephone 0808 1624 115).

Where to start

Repeat blockages, a suspected crack or collapse, or a house purchase.

Septic tank or treatment plant

A new system, an old one causing trouble, or a drainage field that's failed.

Building or extending

New drainage for a house, extension or development, designed and built.

How a two-chamber septic tank works Cross-section of a septic tank buried in the ground. Waste water from the house enters the first chamber through a dip pipe. Fats float to form a crust, solids sink to form sludge. Settled liquid passes through a gap in the dividing wall into the second chamber, then out of the tank to a drainage field. Access covers sit on top of each chamber. First chamber Second chamber 1 2 3 4 5 6

How a drainage field works Left: a bird's-eye view of a garden. A pipe runs from the house to the septic tank or treatment plant, then to a small distribution chamber that splits the flow between several parallel trenches. Each trench holds a perforated pipe laid in gravel, with undisturbed ground between the trenches. Right: a cut through one trench, showing topsoil on top, a membrane, gravel around a perforated pipe, and water soaking down into the ground below. Drainage fields and soakaways

Hotels, restaurants and cafés

Commercial drains work harder than most. We look after them with CCTV surveys, planned jetting and no-dig repairs, so problems are found before they close a kitchen or a floor. See drains for hotels and drains for restaurants and cafés.

How we work

Find the cause, explain it, fix it properly

  1. Talk to us

Call or send a message. We'll ask a few questions and, where we can, give you advice there and then.

  2. We find the cause

We clear what needs clearing and, where it matters, look with a camera, so the answer is based on evidence.

  3. You get the facts

We explain what we found, show you the footage and set out your options, including when nothing needs doing.

  4. We do the work properly

If you go ahead, we do the job start to finish, test it and leave the site as we found it.

Why people use us

What makes us different

We'd rather you understood your drains than simply took our word for it.

You see what we see

Where it matters, you get the camera footage and a written report, not just our word.

One firm from start to finish

We survey, design, dig, install and put your garden or drive back, so there are no gaps between trades.

Can you help in an emergency?

Yes. If water or sewage is coming back up, call us on 07624 202220 and we'll get to you as quickly as we can.

Do you charge for a quote?

No. Your first consultation is free, and we'll give you a free estimate before any work starts.

How quickly will you get back to me?

We usually reply the same day. If it's urgent, call us on 07624 202220 or send a WhatsApp.

Will you give advice over the phone?

Happily. Plenty of problems can be narrowed down with a few questions, and some can be sorted without a visit at all.

Do you work for landlords, letting agents and businesses?

Yes. We work for homeowners, landlords, letting agents, builders and commercial premises, and we can provide written reports and records for your files.

Is my drain my responsibility or Manx Utilities'?

Your drains are normally your responsibility up to where they join the public sewer, and Manx Utilities looks after the public sewers. Our Isle of Man drainage rules guide explains how to tell which is which.

Tell us what's going on

Call or send a message. We're happy to give advice over the phone, and if it's something you can sort yourself, we'll say so.
